Are you a minister whose calling is characterized by care, compassion, contribution and change making? Then we have a pastoral charge for you! Milford Gays River Lantz is a vibrant rural two point charge. We value our faith community as a place of belonging which helps us support each other in our personal and faithful growth. Our creed is “We are called to be the Church”, and so with faith, through our enthusiastic music and honored traditions, we look to a new future. Find us on ChurchHub!
As noted last week, the Faith Story Committee hope to bring the full report to a Congregational Meeting on Sunday May 5th. It will contain all the mandated Profiles and content needed by Regional Council to allow us to call our next Minister. The main recommendation is shared here so people have time to think about it before the meeting.
The Charge has budgeted for year round (12 months) 20 hours a week, 52 weeks a year. Annual cost is estimated at $37,398.40. The Scenario Development Workshop revealed interest in several other possibilities. Option A: 30 hours a week, 52 weeks of the year. (¾ time.) Annual cost is estimated at $56,097.60. $18,700 over budget. Option B: 30 hours a week, second week of September to mid June. (¾ time 40 weeks a year.) Annual cost is estimated at $43,152. $5754 over budget. Option C: 20 hours a week, second week of September to mid June. (1/2 time 40 weeks a year.) Annual cost is estimated at $28,768. $8,630 under budget. Option B is recommended for the following reasons.
The noted meeting is set for 12:30 PM in Milford Lantz. It is preceded by a potluck lunch at 12 noon and all contributions are gratefully accepted. Scenario Development Workshop. It will be held on Sunday March 24 at Riverside Education Centre in Milford. It will run roughly 1:30 to 4:30 pm. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend to provide their input into what our next paid Ministry Personnel configuration could look like. Put the date in your Calendar right now: this is an important step in our journey!
The questionaire is a way for you to tell the Faith Story Committee what your Faith means to you, and what you hope to see in a next Minister that will help you live that faith. The workshop will help shed light on possible ways we might want to employ a Minister to meet those hopes. Faith Story Update
Your Committee met on Feb 26th . Since then, .1 Treasurers and Trustees have been invited to share their particular wisdom and experience. Templates were provided. These were shared with hopes of completion within two weeks. .2 An invitation to everyone to comment on a couple of questions is provided in the Bulletin. These can be completed (anonymously or identifiably) by anyone that wishes to participate this way. Large Print copies are available either at the back of the Church or from a Faith Story Committee member. A Drop Box for returns is also located at the back of each Church building. Comment forms are also available on the Church website. https://mgrlpc.weebly.com Your Committee met on Feb 22nd and have laid out the next few steps. These include:
1) We believe structuring all input to the Faith Story under headings taken directly from the New Creed will provide a theological framework, for both our immediate work of building our call for our next Minister, and will also position us to complete other planning work the National Church has on the horizon for us. Essentially we suggest our primary Framework include lifting up the statement from the Creed: “We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God’s presence.” Areas of activity within our Charge that support this statement would be captured under the four headings: “How we live with respect in Creation,” “How we love and serve others,” “How we seek justice and resist evil,” “How we proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,” (This may sound complicated now, but we think we can make it make sense for everyone as we go forward!) 2) The Committee needs input from the Charge. This will be gathered in the following ways. .1 Groups like the Treasurers and the Trustees and others are required to share their particular wisdom and experience via template provided by the United Church. These will be shared with them in the next week, with hopes of completion within two weeks. .2 An invitation to comment on a couple of questions will be provided in an upcoming Bulletin. These can be completed (anonymously or identifiably) by anyone that wishes to participate this way. A Drop Box for returns will be located at the back of each Church building. .3 A Scenario Development Workshop is being designed and will be held very soon. Details are still being worked out, but it will be open to all and is expected to be about three hours long. If lots of folks come out for it, it may be a little longer to ensure everyone has the opportunity to engage. .4 A very short video reflecting the current life and work of our Faith Community is underway. You may be asked to supply pictures, allow your face to included in various shots or even be a short feature interviewee! This will be available online for viewing by Ministers seeking a call. Sorry for the long announcement, but we know we missed the Bulletin this week and we did want to update you. For those on Facebook, you will also find this message on our Church page and you can read it at your leisure. Your Committee met with Liaison Rev. Sarah Reaburn on Tuesday February 12th. The scope of work was outlined, and there is lots for everyone! The Committee will meet again on February 21st to begin building the required Profiles. We will be approaching folks for assistance with these, as using all our many hands and our collective knowledge will allow us to post our vacancy as quickly as possible. One fun project beginning immediately is a very short promotional video that we can share with those searching for a ministry 'Call.' Stay tuned for details as they emerge.
The Pastoral Relations Liaison from Region 15 to work with Milford-Gays River-Lantz Pastoral Charge has been named and is Sarah Reaburn. Your Committee has had its first meeting with her. The Journey has begun! We invite your prayers and support as we all move forward together.
